Like swied mentioned roof racks in the early 60s were basically luggage racks made of 2x4s with canvas strap tie downs.
Each strap should cross the board twice.
At freeway speeds anything could happen especially if you had two boards or more boards on them.
This rack will wrap around the interior of your vehicle and permit you to store your surfboard on the roof securely.
This is an excellent choice or you if you want to bring your surfboards with you while you travel and keep them safe.
Your surfboard flying off your racks is bad for your board and more importantly dangerous to others so be sure to place your board on the racks properly double check your straps several times before you take off and pay special attention to their security as you traverse high bridges or travel under stormy conditions.
Put the surfboard on top of your car with your fins facing up.
We always put the boards on fin forward to prevent them from slipping out from under the straps.
Drop the front eva foam pad near the windshield.
Double check if the board only touches the foam pads and not the vehicle.
The block surf surfboard roof rack has pads and straps which will keep your gear protected and free from damages.
